Vote for Hurt for future generations

To the editor:

As a recent college graduate, I believe the two most important issues in this year’s election are the creation of jobs and cutting down the staggering national debt.

Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Fifth District, has been consistent in voting with his party on 90 percent of the bills and in favor of their federal stimulus “solutions.” Only recently has he begun his election year by voting against two Democratic federal budget regulations, in an effort to appear more conservative to his constituents. These measures were certain to pass without his vote. It is evident that he is being counseled by political strategists to make these uncharacteristic efforts.

Perriello’s “buy-now, pay-later” philosophy will not go without consequence. Our generation of young adults will have to pay back the debt with interest. According to U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., “As future generations struggle to pay back the debt they will inherit, their quality of life will suffer—instead of working to better their own lives, they will be working to pay off the fiscal irresponsibility of the current generation. Our children and grandchildren will
have less money for the hallmarks of the American dream—a home purchase, a college education, a secure retirement.”

Our futures have been mortgaged by the Democratic Party’s federal budget and unbridled spending. And my generation should be outraged. A vote for Robert Hurt on Nov. 2 demonstrates our hope for greater opportunities for us in this generation and for the generations to come.
