Federal Government Incurs a Deficit of Over $1.0 Trillion in First 9 Months of Fiscal Year 2010

Thursday, July 08, 2010

Chatham, VA - Yesterday, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released its monthly budget review that showed that the federal government has incurred a deficit of over $1 trillion dollars for the first nine months of fiscal year 2010(see here).

With news like this it's not surprising that Democrats, who control the House of Representative and the U.S. Senate, are now resorting to smear campaigns. According to the Washington Post(see here), the Democratic party is "moving faster and more aggressively than in previous election years to dig up unflattering details about Republican challengers." Moreover, the Democratic National Campaign Congressional Committee has "issued a call to the public to submit any embarrassing audio or video of Republicans."

All these games are taking place in Washington while Main Street and middle class Virginians face not only a horrible economy, but a soaring national debt of over $13 trillion dollars and unemployment as high as 22% in some parts of Virginia's Fifth District.

Robert Hurt, Republican candidate in Virginia's Fifth Congressional District released the following statement:

"Our Congressman and politicians in Washington are letting us down. Instead of standing up for the people they represent and looking out for future generations, they're looking out for Nancy Pelosi and their party leadership. While families and small businesses in Virginia's Fifth District are cutting back and struggling to make ends meet, our Congressman and his allies in Washington are spending money we don't have and borrowing money that our children and grandchildren can't pay back.

When I'm elected to Congress on November 2nd, I pledge to the people I seek to represent that I will fight to rid our country of out-of-control spending, soaring debt and crippling deficits. I'll work around the clock to make sure that hard working Virginians keep more of their hard earned money in their pocket instead of sending it to Washington. That's the kind of leadership I'll take to Washington and that's the kind of leadership we need in order to get our economy moving again and bring jobs back to Virginia."
