Chatham, VA - The Washington Post is reporting today that Majority Leader Steny Hoyer thinks that tax cuts for the middle class should not be 'totally sacrosanct' and that House leadership would be having a "serious discussion" about the affordability of tax breaks and pledged that middle class tax cuts enacted during the Bush Admininstation should not be permanent. Rep. Perriello has voted with Nancy Pelosi and Washington Democrats 90% of the time he has been in Washington(see here). Despite dozens of townhalls where his constituents pleaded with him to take their side, he voted with Nancy Pelosi on government run healthcare, a trillion dollar stimulus bill and government run healthcare - all major issues that will have a negative impact on Fifth District citizens.
Now the Democratic leadership in Washington is threatening to increase taxes on already struggling middle class families, so its natural for Fifth District Virginians to be wondering:
Will Tom Perriello Stand with Washington Democrats or Middle Class Virginians?
Republican Congressional Candidate in Virginia's Fifth District, Robert Hurt, released the following statement:
"For the past two years, Tom Perriello, Nancy Pelosi and Democrats in Washington have spent our country $13 trillion dollars in debt. Perriello promised that if we just spent a few billion dollars and gave them a little bit of time, they would bring jobs back to Virginia's Fifth District and get out our economy moving again. Well, they haven't and despite their promises, unemployment is now higher in Virginia's Fifth District than it was before we spent a trillion dollars.
Now, Steny Hoyer and Democrats in Washington are threatening to raise taxes on middle class Virginians. It's time that we had a Congressman that will stand up for Virginians and not Washington Democrats. We need to stand up for the people and the small businesses in Southside and Central Virginia that are struggling. Most importantly, we need a Congressman who will stand up to Steny Hoyer and Nancy Pelosi and tell them that middle class tax relief needs to be totally 'sacrosanct.'"
