A Positive Campaign Focused on Jobs

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

Team,

With only 6 days to go until the Republican primary, we've kicked our campaign into high gear. Your help and support over the past 6 months has put our campaign in a great position to win on June 8th. We're running a positive campaign that's has focused on the number one issue facing families in the Fifth District: JOBS. We've spread our message of tax cuts for families and small businesses, stopping out of control wasteful spending in Washington and balancing our budgets and its working!

Our message is resonating because of your hard work and because people know that I am the only candidate who has:
  • Voted against Civil Unions
  • Voted for the Constitutional Marriage Amendment to keep marriage between one man and one woman.
  • Voted to protect the right of the unborn
  • Voted to protect our jobs from illegal aliens
  • Voted to cut taxes over 50 times
  • Voted to cut wasteful government spending
  • A plan to go to Washington and fight for small business and job creation
Most of my opponents have also kept this a positive race focused on the issues important to Virginians. Unfortunately, Jim McKelvey has seen the poll numbers and now at the 11th hour, has resorted to running a dishonest and negative campaign. It's clear that he's realizing that defeat is just a few days away and his desperation is showing. In an attack mailer his campaign sent out last week there wasn't ONE citation - not one, backing any of the assertions his campaign had made. And all of this just a few days before we paid honor to those who sacrificed everything for this country on Memorial Day.

My friends, we have 22% unemployment in Martinsville, 15% unemployment in Danville and we just lost over 500 jobs at The Stanley Furniture Plant.

Is this really the time to launch dishonest and false allegations against fellow Republicans? I don't think so and I know you don't think so. Now is the time for serious leadership - not political games and smear tactics; tactics more common of those in Washington - not in the 5th district.

Over the next few days our campaign will continue to push its positive message throughout the district - through phone calls, door to door canvassing and other events. I look forward to seeing you on the trail as we move toward Victory in June - and Victory in November!

Thank you all for your continued support and I appreciate your vote on June 8th.

Sincerely,

Robert Hurt
