Martinsville Bulletin

I’ve known Robert Hurt, our state senator, for more than a decade. I knew him while he was chief deputy commonwealth’s attorney for Pittsylvania County. He then threw his hat in the ring to serve the town of Chatham as a councilman and later went on to serve in the Virginia House of Delegates (representing parts of Pittsylvania Co., Henry Co. and Martinsville). Now he serves us (the citizens of Danville, Pittsylvania Co., Franklin Co. and part of of Campbell Co.) in the Virginia state senate.

He has been portrayed by some as a “career politician,” but I care to differ — he is a statesman. There is a difference. Robert Hurt has selflessly served our community for years. He’s maintained a successful private law practice as a businessman, fathered and raised three wonderful sons, been the faithful husband of a beautiful wife, and sacrificed time and money to advocate for you and me in Richmond. Once again, Hurt is willing to sacrifice for us by running in a grueling campaign for U.S. House of Representatives (5th District). As someone who has often been on the trail with him, I can assure you that it is not easy living. Long, long hours and a barrage of dirty politics by his opponents make for a less than glamorous lifestyle. But, Robert Hurt continues to be diligent because he knows that our families and his family are the ones who suffer if he does not press forward. He wants to limit our tax burdens from the federal government, he wants to protect our constitutional rights (to life, to keep and bear arms, and all of the rest — he knows the Bill of Rights and the Constitution are not multiple choice), and reduce the out-of-control growth of government and its spending. Robert Hurt — our statesman, our friend — needs your support (as a volunteer, a donor, etc.) and your vote on Tuesday, June 8, during the Republican Primary. You vote at your normal voting precinct just like any other election. Hurt is our best candidate for returning common sense to Washington.
