To the editor:
I’m sure Tom Perriello is a nice guy. I don’t doubt that his
intentions are good. However, as an elected official, he is completely
out of touch with the views of most of his constituents. One of the many
blunders he has bestowed upon our area is the disasterous health care
bill that he voted for. This bill is sure to result in higher taxes,
loss of jobs and a reduced quality of care for patients. Despite this,
Perriello continues to tout this bill as one of the greatest
achievements in American history. Although he may hold a strong personal
conviction in supporting this measure, isn’t his job to represent the
citizens of the Fifth District? I don’t know about you, but nearly
everyone I’ve talked to around this area wants nothing to do with this
so-called “reform.”
Now, of course, the question that comes to mind is: Who should face
Perriello in November? Of the seven contenders for the GOP nomination,
the choice to me is clear.
Robert Hurt is not only someone who shares our beliefs and values, he
is also someone who understands the political process.
It’s true that some of the other potential Republican nominees have
made valid points and presented solid ideas on the campaign trail, but
they lack the experience of holding an office that could compare to
being in Congress. We need someone that not only has good ideas, but
knows how to implement them. As a state senator, Hurt has done that.
Speaking as someone who is about to graduate college in a matter of
days and return home, the future of this area is very important to me.
The Danville area, specifically, is near and dear to my heart. It is
because of this that I ask you to join me in supporting Hurt on June 8
in the Republican primary. He is, to me, unequivocally the best choice
to represent the Fifth District in Congress and provide a prosperous
future for our region.
