Senator Hurt Joins Governor McDonnell in Welcoming EcomNets; 160 Private Sector Jobs in The Fifth District

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Chatham, VA – Yesterday, Governor McDonnell announced that EcomNets, a company dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems, will create 160 new private sector jobs in the Danville area.

During his campaign in 2008, Congressman Perriello promised to focus on job creation. Since his election he has voted for trillions in government spending, a cap and trade plan that will add taxes to small businesses and government run healthcare that will add yet another tax to struggling Virginian families.

Following Governor McDonnell’s announcement, State Senator Robert Hurt, conservative Republican congressional candidate in Virginia’s 5th District released the following statement:

“I join Governor McDonnell in welcoming EcomNets to the Fifth District. This is a perfect example of how government can work to create an environment that promotes job growth and encourages small businesses to grow and expand. We’re proud to have EcomNets opening up its operation in the Fifth District.

Since his election, Congressman Perriello has repeatedly voted for policies that will hurt small businesses and do nothing to promote true private sector job growth in the Fifth District. Congressman Perriello voted with Nancy Pelosi and Democratic leadership last year for an over $800 billion dollar so called ‘stimulus’ package that he promised would create jobs. A year later unemployment is the same or worse in many parts of the district – Danville 14.9% - Martinsville City 21.4%(Danville Register and Bee 4/7/2010). Small businesses create jobs – not the government. He voted for cap and trade and he voted for government run healthcare.

As Virginia’s next Congressman, I pledge to work with Governor McDonnell and other state and local leaders to reduce the burden of taxes and regulation on the private sector and to be a voice for small businesses so we can get our economy moving again and bring private sector jobs back to the Fifth District.”
