The seven Republicans running in a June 8
primary for a chance to challenge U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Ivy, have
all filed enough signatures required to appear on the ballot.
Fifth District Republican Committee Chairman Tucker Watkins said
Friday evening that each of the candidates had turned in the 1,000
signatures required. Watkins and several volunteers will certify the
petitions today in Albemarle County.
All seven candidates have delivered their petitions by today’s
deadline,” Watkins said.
Sen. Robert Hurt, R-Chatham, filed 3,000 signatures in late March and
will appear first on the primary ballot.
Ron Ferrin, a businessman from Campbell County, was the last
candidate to file, turning in his petitions just under the Friday
afternoon deadline.
“I was the last one,” Ferrin said. “If I can’t be at the top of the
list, I want to be at the bottom … If you can’t buy an ad on the front
page, then you buy an ad on the back page.”
