Perriello Puts Pelosi First "Again"
Chatham, Va - On November 7, 2009, Congressman Tom Perriello voted for
President Obama's tax-raising, Medicare-cutting government healthcare
takeover. According to a recent Public Policy Polling survey, 52% of
Central and Southside Virginians opposed that bill, while just 32%
supported it.
Despite overwhelming opposition to the government run healthcare plan,
last night Congressman Perriello voted yet again for the bill.
Following the vote, State Senator Robert Hurt, conservative Republican
congressional candidate in Virginia's 5th District, released the
following statement:
"Tom Perriello's vote tonight for the massive tax-and-spend
government takeover of the American healthcare system is a great tragedy
for the good people of the 5th District. The fact that Tom Perriello
voted for this bill should come as no surprise, for it is really the
culmination of his record of ignoring the good sense of his constituents
and his record of supporting legislation that will kill jobs in the 5th
District.
Since his election, Mr. Perriello has voted with Nancy Pelosi and the
Democratic party leadership for the so-called stimulus package, he has
voted for the disastrous cap and trade bill, and now he has voted for
legislation that will increase taxes for families and businesses and
will threaten the high quality medical care we have in this country.
In each instance, Tom Perriello has put the interests of Washington
special interests ahead of the interests of the people he represents. In
each instance, Tom Perriello has ignored the families and businesses in
Virginia's 5th district that have begged and pleaded for a Congressman
that would fight to cut taxes, restore fiscal responsibility and bring
jobs to the 5th District. In each instance he has voted for the
interests of Nancy Pelosi and not the citizens of the 5th District.
Time and time again, Congressman Perriello has let us down. The 5th
district needs a leader that will stand with our small businesses and
families that are struggling in these tough economic times. We need a
Congressman that will listen to the people of the 5th district and vote
with our interests in mind - not Washington's. As our next Congressman, I
vow to bring my conservative record and principles to Washington and
work to create jobs, cut government spending and get our economy moving
again."
