Conservative Principles Win

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Dear Fellow Conservatives,

As many of you know, Scott Brown has won his Senate race against Martha Coakley. This is a monumental win for conservative Republicans and for our entire country. Scott Brown has proven that if we run on our conservative principles of limited government, opposition to government-controlled healthcare, elimination of wasteful spending and cutting taxes for hard working families, we will win, even in states like Massachusetts.

Over the course of the next eleven months, I look forward to talking with voters across the 5th district about those same conservative principles. For the past year, Tom Perriello has been the Martha Coakley of Virginia. He tells voters in Farmville one thing and then drives to Washington, D.C. and votes with the special interest groups and Democratic Party leaders like Nancy Pelosi. Tom Perriello has consistently put his party leadership ahead of working families here in the 5th district.

While this election outcome is a good indicator for what may be on the horizon in November, we must always approach our task with humility and a sense of duty and service. We must never forget where we as elected officials and candidates derive our authority - from the people. Democrats will re-energize and will take new approaches to maintain their grip on your tax dollars. They will fight to the end, and if we as conservatives are not united in our efforts to bring about commonsense conservative change, our efforts may not be successful.

Based on my travels around the 5th district I'm convinced that we will unite around our shared principles of commons sense conservative change and we will send new conservative leadership to Washington in 2010.

I appreciate all your efforts, and I look forward to seeing you on the trail ahead.

Sincerely,

Senator Robert Hurt
