Daily Progress: Hurt touts Reeves in race against Houck; jobs key issue: U.S. Rep. Robert Hurt urged Albemarle County Republicans Monday to help break legislative gridlock in both Richmond and Washington, calling on the GOP faithful to elect Fredericksburg businessman Bryce Reeves to the state Senate this year and return to the polls in 2012. Reeves hopes to unseat long-time incumbent Sen. Edd Houck, D-Spotsylvania, and on Monday the two candidates argued over which was better positioned to help create jobs in the sprawling 17th District. Hurt, R-Chatham, said it has been “extremely frustrating” to see the GOP-controlled House pass bills to “unleash” the nation’s energy resources and create jobs, only to see those bills go nowhere in the Democratic Senate.
