CHATHAM, VA – The Robert Hurt for U.S. Congress campaign today responded to Congressman Perriello’s most recent negative attack ad. The below is a quote from Hurt Campaign spokesman, Amanda Henneberg:
“Congressman Perriello has launched a negative attack ad that will only serve as a reminder to 5th District voters of the thousands of dollars he has taken from special interest groups, big labor bosses, and Nancy Pelosi’s leadership team that lobby for his vote in return for their donations.
“These groups have cashed in on their contributions when they secured Congressman Perriello’s support for the job-killing card check bill, government takeover of health care, and Cap and Trade.
“Congressman Perriello’s broken campaign promise of taking thousands of dollars in donations directly from registered lobbyists, only to allegedly refund them once he was caught red handed, is just another reminder of the duplicitous nature of this ad.
“As his votes in favor of big spending, big government policies prove, no one will fight harder for Nancy Pelosi than Congressman Perriello, and certainly this charade of an ad won’t cover up that fact.”
AD MYTH: “Senator Hurt has helped us raise your electric rates again and again.”

FACT: APCo’s Rate Increase Was Based On A Law That Predates Robert Hurt’s Vote On The 2007 Bill, And Hurt’s Votes Actually Helped To Lower Electric Rates For Virginians. “[Attorney General] Cuccinelli backed up Hurt’s statements, saying that the 2007 law was not the cause or a factor in APCo’s rate increase. Cuccinelli said that there will be no more interim rate increases by power companies because the General Assembly has passed legislation to prohibit them.” (Franklin News-Post, “Cuccinelli: Cap & Trade will drastically affect electric rates, jobs,” 9/3/10)
